F.A.Q.
Q: Why are the clubs known as "TAR" clubs?
A: TAR stands for Teen Age Republican. All the clubs in the State of Florida are known as Teen Age Republican clubs, which forms the acronym TAR (pronounced just like the word "tar"). Each member of the club is known as a "TAR" and groups are known as "TARs".
Q: Do
I have to include the words "Teen Age Republican" in my club name?
A: Yes. Each
club that falls under the jurisdiction of the Florida Federation of
Teen Age Republicans MUST be known as a "Teen Age Republican" club,
or TAR for short. Some have been known to use "Young" Republicans,
but this is incorrect, as Young Republicans refers to those aged
18-40. You can decide whether or not to use the word "club" in your
name.
Q:
What are the age considerations to be a Teen Age Republican?
A: Anyone aged 13-19 is considered a Teen Age Republican.
Q: I'm
only 12. Am I still permitted to join a Teen Age Republican club?
A: Yes. Those
ages 11 and 12 may join a Teen Age Republican organization as an
Associate member, but are not considered to be voting members.
Q: I
am home-schooled. How can I become involved with a Teen Age
Republican club?
A: As a home-schooler, you would not be eligible to join a currently active high school organization, but are more than welcome to begin or become a member of a county, city, or regional Teen Age Republican club. It is even possible to form a TAR club specifically for home-schoolers!
Q: Can
I have the charter sent to my house?
A: Yes. In
fact, most TAR Presidents do so. :)
Q: Is
it possible to create additional offices or committees or am I
limited to those only in the FFTAR by-laws?
A: Yes, it is
possible to create as many additional offices as you feel necessary,
within reason. Of course, the four main offices of President, Vice
President, Secretary, and Treasurer should remain the same. You are
more than welcome to add additional offices to suit your particular
club's needs.
Q: Can
I still hold meetings with my club even if I don't have the charter
yet?
A: Yes, by all
means, continue with business as usual. As long as you've filed for
the charter, you are permitted to promote a "Republican" club.
Q: Do
I need a teacher or an adult to sponsor my TAR club?
A: Yes. If you are starting a high school club, the sponsor must be a teacher or faculty member. If you are starting a club outside of school, any adult can sponsor you, but particularly, one who is involved with Republicans on a local basis. Your County REC (Republican Executive Committee) Chairman or State Committeeman or Committeewoman is a good place to start.
Q: Is
there a specific set of rules/protocol that I need to follow at my
TAR meetings?
A: Generally, yes. The rules of procedure used throughout the state are similar to those of most organizations, in that we follow Robert's Rules of Order. To see a list of tips, etc, please click HERE (www.robertsrules.org).
